Get all the information you need about the Cornell Big Red's game at Brown, Saturday, February 16, 2013, 6 pm, with The Cornell Basketball Blog's Game Preview Center. Below, news and notes for Saturday...
- Errick Peck informally announced last night on Hits 103 Radio that he will graduate from Cornell in May and seek an opportunity to play on scholarship as a graduate student outside of the Ivy League next season.
- The Cornell Daily Sun reports on Nolan Cressler's Rookie of the Week honors and writes:
After helping his team to a split in Ivy play last weekend, freshman guard Nolan Cressler was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
In the disappointing 67-65 loss to Harvard Friday, Cressler had an efficient night, scoring eight points on three of four shots from the field.
In a 79-56 trouncing of Dartmouth on Sunday, Cressler was again lethal from beyond the arc. Similar to the Harvard game, the freshman only missed one shot, knocking down two three pointers en route to 14 total points. He also tied for a team high five rebounds while dishing out two assists.
More impressively, Cressler’s productive weekend came in limited playing time, as he came off the bench in both games and played only 45 total minutes.
Cressler is three Rookie of the Week honors behind sophomore forward Shonn Miller’s total of five last year. Miller went on to win the Ivy League’s Rookie of the Year.
As the Red reaches a crucial crossroads in its conference season this weekend, Cressler’s productivity will continue to be important. He is currently fourth on the team in scoring with 7.7 points per game and second in three-point percentage at just over 40 percent.
- There is a late piece published by Mike James, a Harvard blogger, on Rush The Court.

- Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of February 16 is No. 213 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 222 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 208. Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.

I am very concerned that Brown is being overlooked.
waiting to see how the last 5 mins go.. so far Cornell has been great except in the half court.. they seem to chuck some long shots
Second half not as promising as first half. Doesn't seem Courtney is recognizing the hot hand. It's a win though but did not have to be this close. Cherry 3 for 4 in first half and gets what around 4 mins second half.
Another close game that should not have been, but I guess a win is a win. Hope that patterns of letting leads get erase does not continue. Some bad shot selections during times when you should be taking it inside! Just a thought!!!!!
Nice win. That 8-6 record I had hoped for at the start of the season is very attainable and we have a chance to do even better. That record would be an improvement each year Coach C. has been here.
It sucks that the league can't come up with a league-wide basketball video package.
8 - 6 is just 1 lost from A .500 ivy league season. No very good just not as bad as the bottom feeders of the conference. Thought the idea was to reach NCAA Tournament not just to exist in the middle of the Ivy. Successful season has to be considered 9 - 5 or better which may help separate us from the pack which will end up from 3-11 to7-7. With a win over Princeton or and Harvard this season would truly be progress and help define the direction the program is heading!!!!
Hmmm... Only one negative Courtney comment. Glad to see most of those posters have stopped for the time being.
The one negative poster above criticizes bill for not playing the hot hand. Many others have criticized him for trying to play the hot hand. Give it up.
As for the comment about close games -- the team was on the road. This team had improved leaps and bounds on the road since the last two seasons. They just swept a road weekend against two decent teams (one if which beat providence).
For an Ivy League basketball website, there sure are some posters who absolutely butcher the English language. I recognize that it's a sports blog, but come one folks, let's at least pretend we finished junior high school and stop with the texting/!!!!!!!!!!! language.
Anon 11:40 - thank you for saying EXACTLY what's been on my mind these last few months. I read the blog daily, and I have to say that the excessive use of texting-type language is maddening. U R driving me nuts!!! C U l8tr!!!
